‘I didn’t deserve that promotion- I just got lucky. I really don’t belong here. Gosh, I just hope they don’t realize I’m a fraud’.
If you’ve ever had thoughts like this – or experienced some of the accompanying feelings such as perfectionism, an intense fear of failure, etc. – then the first thing you need to know is: you’re not alone. More than half of all professionals experience imposter syndrome (or, more precisely: impostor phenomenon) at some points of their career, and there is evidence that suggests that people who differ from the perceived majority and who belong to underrepresented communities, such as the LGBTQ+ community, are significantly more susceptible to it. And the consequence: if you feel like a fraud, you’re less likely to go after the new opportunities and to progress in your career at the pace you deserve, less likely to explore potential areas of your interest, to celebrate the real, authentic you and to share your talents with the world!
In this talk, I’d like to share some personal experiences as well as methods that can help you manage imposter syndrome. I will invite you to some self-reflection exercises and leave you with some tools that you may use later by yourself or with a friend. My overall mission in this talk: to empower you to find your own way to feeling that you are capable, that you deserve your place, that you have the talent, that you belong. Join this talk and take the first step.
Über Borisz Mérei (Counselor & Coach)

Bo Mérei is an integral counselor and a systemic expert-coach based in Berlin. Before turning his life around and following his passion for psychology and coaching, Bo was a global advertising director, leading teams across Europe, Middle East-North Africa and Asia. He learned from his very own example that no matter how great the success or career achievement, the impostor phenomenon can follow you all the way to the top – unless you face it and learn how to manage it. Bo’s most passionate about facilitating people’s processes of becoming the most authentic and content versions of themselves, both in personal and work context. He often works with LGBTQ+ professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs seeking to define and own their professional journeys with purpose, passion, authenticity, and empowerment.
