Language and consciousness are closely connected with each other. Any efforts regarding equality of genders can’t bypass a gender-inclusive use of language. But what exactly is gender-sensitive and -neutral language? Which different forms are there? How can it help to work against discrimination and how can it be implemented into corporate communication? What do I need to consider when choosing pictures and images? Part of the righteous use of language is also an awareness to sensitive wording and expressions, that should be taken into account.
Those questions, among others regarding the topic of anti-discriminatory language will be examined in this LGBTIQ+ Diversity Focus Session. We will look at gender-neutral language as well as wording and phrasing, that help avoiding any type of direct and indirect discrimination. We will also address how to deal with discriminatory language appropriately and provide guidance on how to respond in case of discriminatory language use.
